4-H PLEDGE
I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
my heart to greater loyalty,
my hands to larger service,
and my health to better living.
For my club, my community and my country.
Topics:
1) Poultry/chickens what do we already know? Everyone in the project this year is in at least their second year. What do we already know from previous years?
2) I had hoped to pass out incubators and eggs today but not many of the birds are laying yet. Who needs an incubator to hatch with and what variety of birds are you wanting to hatch this year.
3) Choosing your chickens we are going to look at a number of poultry breeds tonight in order to help you decide which birds you would like to raise and where we can source the eggs for you. We will be using the following two sites for information.

Hendersons Breed Chart
It's a huge table of most of the breeds, easy to compare for cold hardiness,
laying egg size, temperament .
Feathersite
Has descriptions of breeds but the photos are spectacular-see what a breed looks
like in reality.
Be sure to rate your choices in order from your top choice #1 to your least favourite #8.
4) Chicken breed matching game. Match the chickens silhouette to it’s name.
Next poultry meeting: Thursday Jan 19th from 6:00-7:00 PM.
